Bio
My name is Kym Benner, most know me by "Kym the Doula". I have been a Professional Birth Doula and Childbirth Educator for 33 years.
I've been married to the love of my life for 31 years, we have 4 children and 1 grandchild.
My life's work is advocating for, educating and supporting moms and their families through pregnancy, labor, delivery, postpartum and into motherhood.
I have experience in all birth settings, VBAC's are a specialty, most of my clients in the hospital setting go all natural, so I'm very good with many techniques but at the end of the day I am there to support whatever birth YOU want. I hold certifications in Acupressure for pregnancy, labor and birth, Rebozo, Spinning Babies and NRP which allows me to be a Birth Assistant to Midwives. I have also been to classes with a local midwife (as well as others) who trains many of the midwives in our area. I also try to make every birth a learning experience when working with birth professionals.
I've worked closely with many midwives, OB's, and other birth professionals which has created a wonderful and cohesive work and even personal relationships.
I've attended over 700 births in my 33 years in practice, and each one is just as important.
Birth Support
2 prenatal appointments together
The first is to put a birth plan together, to talk about what you want and envision for your birth
The second is when we go over birthing positions, comfort measures, what to pack, when to call me, go over my contract and any last-minute questions or concerns
I like to labor with you at home as long as possible, help in deciding when to go to hospital or your place of birth, be your advocate while in the hospital
I am certified in Acupressure, Spinning Babies, The Rebozo Technique, comfort and pain techniques, and offer position suggestions, help your husband/partner help you, help with hospital procedures, understanding what staff is saying and or suggesting
I stay after for about 1-2 hours to help with breastfeeding
1 postpartum visit in your home for those who would like it
I stay in touch with them for the 1st 4 to 6 weeks after delivery, checking in every day
